Wedstrijdsverslag Eurocup Carnac 2011

 In Nieuws

Arriving in France a little late, just 50 minutes before the start, with three boats on the trailer, It was still possible to start the first race and finish in front of the fleet for Hilde & Michiel and Frank & Lennart. And because Florence (3 times olympic 470 sailor) and Nico Honor had problems with counting to three they did one round extra and didn’t even became last. Hilde & Michiel were leading with 5 points after the first day.

A French warm welcome in the night with good champagne, wine and French bread in a warm and sunny environment made the atmosphere like it is used to be at RS 500 International Events. It was really nice to understand that even in France the RS500 attracts the same kind of nice people who just love to sail and have fun in the crazy events!

Then in day 2 the “RS guys” came up and made it to the second place. The calm water and the lower windspeeds made it difficult but interesting to sail. Even though Florence and Nico were sailing fast…., really fast. Also Richard and Sue came very close.

Magnificent sailing conditions on the last two days of the RS 500 EuroCup in Carnac. After leading at the end of day 2, Nicolas and Florence found only 4 bullets (out of 5 races) disappointing and they decided to sell their boat, which opened the race for first place again. Michiel/Hilde and Tom/Rupert had a close battle on day 3 in fantastic sailing conditions. With two bullets Tom and Rupert were leading by only 1 point going into the final day of sailing.

The lack of wind on the 2nd day proved difficult for Frank and Lennart, but they regained their 4th place in the breeze of day 3. After the racing, Yacht Club Carnac served everyone a superb French meal with Andouillette (pour les connaisseurs) and other delicious stuff. Day 3 was followed by another (late) night in the (RS) Flamingo Pub.

After his Mini 6.50 UK Fastnet adventure last week and three days of sailing in Carnac, Michiel’s work decided that enough is enough and he was called home early. Meanwhile, the remaining part of the RS 500 fleet couldn’t get enough of another superb day of sunny sailing. Tom and Rupert sailed two bullets on the final day, which secured the win of the event. Without sailing the last day, Michiel and Hilde finished second. Frank and Lennart climbed to third after two second places on day 4. Thanks to Zhik for the magnificent prices that were provided for this event. Greets from the Dutch fleet!
